Sour Beer: A unique style, not for all
International Sour beer day** falls on Wednesday this year: Sept. 20th 2023. How will you celebrate? Will you celebrate? Sour beer is not for everyone, but for a some, it is their favorite style of beer – the more sour, the better!
Sour Beers to try
Maybe not for everyone, but definitely recommended for all to try. Some of the Thai Breweries that do sour beers are:
- Samata Brewing – Fruit Party Sour, Raspberry Cheecake fruited sour, etc.
- The Brewing Project – collaboration Yuzu Sour
One of the oldest and original sour beers?
May we make a recommendation to try one of the older beers that have brought many a people into the world of Craft Beer: The Duchesse De Bourgogne.
The beer is a traditional Flemish red, and rated a 93% on BeerAdvocate.
For some, it is a delightful traditional Belgian beer, and others it is a delicious cross between wine and beer due to its slight acidity.

Other breweries with sour beers to look out for (which can all be found around Bangkok):
- BrewDog
- King’s County
- Megobrei
- Vocation
“September 20th celebrates Sour Beer Day – the beer which has an intentionally acidic, tart, or sour taste. Sour beers were once considered unusual, but they are now seen as one of the world’s most popular beer styles! The first sour beers were created in Belgium in the early 18th century. Classic sour beer styles include Belgian Lambics, Gueuze, Flanders red ale, German Gose, and Berliner Weisse.”
International Days
**It should also be noted that September 8th is also considered National Sour Beer Day for the U.K. & the U.S.A.
