Mikkeller Oktoberfest Weekend

·

·

·

Friday Oct. 16th to Sunday the 18th, Mikkeller Oktoberfest Weekend took place with Oktoberfest beer (by Mikkeller Brewing Thailand*) poured from German gravity kegs and there was traditional German-inspired food by Moohanakorn.

  • Special Beer: Oktoberfest by Mikkeller Brewing Thailand
    • in German gravity kegs (Stichfass (or Stichfaß)?)
      • A Stichfass (or Stichfaß) is a traditional German wooden gravity keg used to serve beer without external CO2 pressure.
  • At Mikkeller Bangkok

Editor’s note/post:
I got to enjoy the Friday night at Mikkeller, as Saturday was DogFest, but as a fan of Oktoberfest, it seemed like a good excuse to take a walk through Ekkamai.

The Oktoberfest gravity keg was supposed to be tapped at 8pm, so I arrived a little early to enjoy a beer, and get ready for the keg tapping. I ordered a London Pub Ale by the new Mikkeller Brewing Thailand, as it was under 5%, and seemed a good beer before an Oktoberfest. After I get my beer, the barman let me know the keg was already tapped and ready to pour… Oh well.

After the pub ale, I ordered the oktoberfest, which was served in large mugs. It was a solid beer, so I knew I would have at least one or 2 more, and figured some pretzels and a sausage from their special menu would be a good idea. The pretzels came with 3 dipping sauces, and although the pretzels didn’t seem all that fresh, the bun for the German/Danish sausage was.
– the kitchen guy indicated that everything coming from the kitchen was as Danish-inspired as it was German-inspired.

*Mikkeller Brewing Thailand – Mikkeller the “gypsy brewer” has now opened a brewing facility in Thailand, and the beers have recently shown up on tap in Bangkok, London, and Malmo Sweden.
