International Sour Beer Day 2026 is coming!! It is on a Sunday this year… at least it is in Bangkok. Fruited sours have been hailed by some, especially when enjoying the Thai flavors that are used locally, such as Mango Sticky Rice or Thai Tangerine flavors.

Why celebrate Sour Beer?
Not all sour beer is bad beer, instead it is often a reference to some sour notes in the beer that might be otherwise quite fruity. It can note that different style of yeast was used in the beer-making process, or that it is a wild-style or a very old style of beer that is not seen as often anymore.
– Duchesse de Bourgogne (pictured below) is a great example of an old style beer that has some sour notes, and that makes it rather different from other beers that are easier to find.
Untappd defines a Sour Beer as any style of Wild Ale, Brett Beer, Lambic, Sour or Farmhouse IPA, Berliner Braunbier, Lichtenhainer, Non-Alcoholic Sours, or of course, any Sour (Berliner Weisse, Fruited Berliner Weisse, Flanders Oud Bruin, Flanders Red Ale, Fruited, Gose, Fruited Gose or Other).

Not a huge beer brand in Bangkok, but has had some success with a very nice Thai Tangerine Smoothi Sour, which is pictured on tap at Tai Soon Bar, above.
