Thai Breweries in World’s Top 40

The world’s top 40 brewing groups by volume in 2024 has been released, and Thailand has two companies that have made the list.  The Thai breweries in the world’s top 40 are Singha at number 19, and is Beer Thai (Chang) at number 27 as calculated by BarthHaas (out of Germany)

Big thanks to American Craft Beer.com for highlighting the report coming out. It is especially pointed out that these are not craft breweries, but are the mass-production breweries.

So much Thai beer in numbers

2023 vs 2024 beer production in millions of hectoliters

Singha Corporation:

  • 2023:  14.55
  • 2024:  13.99
  • -3.8%  change year over year

Beer Thai (Chang) beer output:

  • 2023:  8.7
  • 2024:  6.94
  • -20.3%  change year over year

Further Take-away

A little further look at the numbers in the ‘Thai Breweries in World’s Top 40’ indicates that Singha produced about twice as much beer as Chang, but both of the large corporations produced less beer in 2024 than they did in 2023.

Is this an indicator of overall less beer consumed? An overall drop in the economy?

Or is this an indication that more beer drinkers are choosing smaller producers (craft brewers) and looking for an option in different flavors?
