For the tourists or locals looking for a chill-out session that also happens to be located in the massive mall, IconSiam, Hobs over the river is a pretty solid choice. It makes for such a nice location for photos, that we used it for our picture on the front page of this website.
Up the escalators on the 6th floor of IconSiam, and overlooking the Chao Phraya river.
The restaurant is all outdoors, and thankfully since the laws changes, they do NOT have a weird afternoon break that prevents the sale of alcohol.
The menu is full of choice to enjoy a few bites with the beers. The waitstaff is also kind enough to ask “How spicy do you want your Thai food?“
– the pork neck salad was delicious, and rather spicy.
Beers at Hobs Bar
Most people visiting IconSiam and Hobs are not going to be there strictly for the beer selection, as many of the beers on tap are the simple lagers and wheat beers found in major chains. However, there are some tasty, easy-to-drink, local beers to enjoy if you are there. In our visit in February the beers included:
- Chiang Mai Brewing – Red Truck and Blossom Wesisse in bottles
- Mardi Craft – also has several beers on tap. Vibes NEIPA and the Killjoy Bohemian Pilsner were available as were many of the M32 line of easy drinking beers.
- Vana Brewing– had their Whale Pale Ale and Raven IPA available.
More beer bars in the area
Looking to explore more craft beer bars in the area? Be sure to check out one of Bangkok’s newer Brewpubs, Isara.
Additionally, there is a “cat” bar, Tale ‘N Ale, with local beers, and a bit of a rooftop overlooking IconSiam
And across the street from the mall is S.O.S which is a little bar that also serves a lot if international beers, and a few local.
End of ‘Hobs over the river.’
