Beer Yaksha – Bangkok Beer Guide rebranding

The Bangkok Beer Guide has been a thing for about two years now, so it felt appropriate to change the look of things, and so we reached out to some talented graphic artists at Cat Army Studio for help.

Our old logo simply had a hop cone and barley as parts of the design, which only refers to the beer part of the organization. The beer guide’s new logo is based off the Yaksha (or Yak or Yaksa) guardians or giants in Thai folklore. It is also wearing a hop cone hat and holding a yard of ale.

Introducing the Beer Guide Yaksha – our beer guardian & guide

Although the beer guide is only in English, we want to incorporate more connections with the Thai culture because we believe that is part of what makes the beer scene in Bangkok so great.

The logo is designed to represent the craft beer guide in Bangkok, featuring a character of a giant holding a beer glass [also known as a yard of ale] and wearing a hop [cone] hat. This design reflects the fun, modern blending of Thai culture within Bangkok’s context, appealing to both local and international audiences.

Bangkok’s Giant Swing Font

In the logo and on this website, we are also happy to incorporate the Sao Chingcha font created under the Corporate Identity of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) called the “Giant Swing” font.

A BIG thanks to Cat Army Studio

Cat Army Studio is made up of young Thai artists based in Bangkok. We found them on Fiverr, and were able to meet them in person at a cafe in central Bangkok. It is very important to the Bangkok Beer Guide that we support the local community as much as we can, and so were very happy to hire these talented young artists. We hope this is the beginning of more work with them, and hope other organizations get in touch with them to get some great art made.
