Is ประชาชนเบียร์ dropping beer from their English name? Beer People / ประชาชนเบียร์ is a local beer and spirits advocacy group, and event organizers. They have continued to hold a variety of events to support the local community. With the announcement of the next event, People Market, it looks like Beer People is dropping beer from their name.
A brief history of ประชาชนเบียร์ / Beer People Events
Over the past 3 or 4 years, “Beer People” has held several events each year to support the local small-name community, from Beer Days, Beer Markets, and Beer People Fest to the most most recent Drunken Ghost held at the beginning of October.
– One of the Beer People Fests (2023?) had to change the venue location in a short amount of time due to ‘political reasons.’
The events started as local craft beer fests, and slowly more and more local spirits were added to the offerings, and at the same time, fewer of the more well-known local breweries took part.
As the next event has been announced as People Market, and not Beer People Market, it certainly brings a few questions to mind.
- Is it safer to advertise if the word beer is not in the title?
- Is the local Bangkok crowd just not as interested in local craft beer anymore?
- Is the cost to be at an event just not worth it for some small breweries looking to build their brand?
- Is it just cheaper to bring bottles of local alcohol than set up a jockey box (beer pouring system)?
ประชาชนเบียร์ in their own words
“Beer People” only use English in their signage, and event names, otherwise information is put out in Thai, and their official name in Thai is: ประชาชนเบียร์. No word if the Thai name will change.
When asked online about the organization dropping the word beer, a representative explained (in English, not translated):
“People Market will focus more on community-based products in various forms —
from local spirits and craft beers, to local artists, and even food from community enterprises.
… and it will also be linked to products from the local communities in the areas we travel to and collaborate with.
“Many people often get confused about the different events organized by Prachachon Beer [Beer People].
We’re working to make each event’s concept more distinct, reduce overlap, and better express our identity and vision — so that everyone can clearly understand what makes each event unique.
We do all of this with the hope of helping more and more people, but alcohol and beer are only the starting point — a medium for connection, understanding, and creating meaningful communities.“
