Guide to Craft Beer in Thong Lor and Ekkamai
Q: Are there good beers in Thong Lor and Ekkamai? The Quick Answer: Thong Lo (Sukhumvit 55) has some of Bangkok’s premium choices for beer diversity. For the best craft selection, visit Mikkeller Bangkok or Duke of Beerington. Unfortunately, Beer Belly at 72 Courtyard has closed, but if you are looking for value, the happy hours at The Old English keeps the regulars coming back.
Why Thong Lo has so many options for beer
While Silom has the history and Sukhumvit 11 has the chaos, Thong Lo has a very wide curation of beer choices.
The Landscape of Sukhumvit 55
Stretching from the Sukhumvit main road up to the Phetchaburi canal, Thong Lo is a microcosm of Bangkok’s high-end nightlife. However, for the beer lover, the action is concentrated in three main zones:
The Lower Sois (1-9): Home to classic pubs and expat staples, like the Old English right outside the Thong Lor BTS station.
The Mid-Section (The Commons & 72 Courtyard): The “social heart” where craft beer meets curated food at the Commons, which is home to TBC (The Beer Cap).
The Hidden High-Ends: Where the truly specialized, quiet taprooms hide – Mikkeller Bangkok specializes in craft beers of Northern Europe and BREW at the bridge over the canal offers a variety of European and American craft beers and ciders.
The Craft Beer Heavyweights
If you are in Thong Lo specifically for the quality of the brew, the following spots are excellent choices for their variety of craft beers. Although selection of local Thai craft beer might be limited, they are still top choices.

Duke of Beerington (Sukhumvit 49/1)
Located just a short walk from the Thong Lor BTS station, this is a “bottle shop meets taproom.” It’s intimate, knowledgeable, and strictly about the beer.
The Vibe: Modern, clean, and quiet. Perfect for a serious conversation over a rare IPA.
Must Try: Whatever is on their “Fresh Arrival” tap—they fly in kegs from California and Europe weekly.

Mikkeller Bangkok (Ekkamai Soi 10)
Technically tucked between Thong Lo and Ekkamai, this was the first Mikkeller taproom in Asia. With 30 rotating taps and a dedicated “Tasting Room,” it’s a pilgrimage site for fans of Mikkeller.
The Vibe: A converted Thai house with a lush green lawn.
Pro Tip: Check their “Vintage List” for bottled gems you won’t find anywhere else in Southeast Asia.
Social Hubs & Beer Counters
When meeting up with friends or co-workers, a beer counter works well because everyone can choose their own food instead of meeting up at a restaurant.

The Commons (Thong Lo Soi 17)
The “Market” floor of this iconic community mall is anchored by The Beer Cap. It’s the best place to start an evening.
Why it ranks: You can grab a pint off the tap, or get a beer from the fridge and pair it with food from any of the surrounding vendors.
The Selection: 13 taps ranging from easy-drinking Belgian wheat beers to local Thai crafts.

SeenSpace (Thong Lo Soi 13)
A community space for with a variety of restaurants/food counters and a bar to enjoy sitting in the courtyard. Bar Grace is the anchor for beers and cocktails.
Why it ranks: there are beers on draft, and in bottle.
The Selection: A variety of imported and local craft beer, and plenty of the cheap and cheerful stuff.
